When you first start out writing, you find that there are lot of people only too willing to give you advice. Sadly, although it’s (mostly) well-intended, this advice isn’t always clear, meaningful, or even correct. And as we all know, truly great writers break a lot of so-called ‘rules’ – ‘though I am a firm believer that to break the rules effectively you must first know them.
