Slightly Bad News and TERRIBLY EXCITING NEWS, All At The Same Time

So, you know those graphics I mentioned yesterday? Here’s a sneaky peaky:

…There are lots of things I could say here, but I’ll be honest, the one I want to say most is CAN YOU SEE THAT *GORGEOUS* BLACK HARDCOVER EDITION??! CAN YOUYYYYUUUUUUU!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

*dies happy*

*ahem*

Soooo. The slightly bad news is that we’ve decided to push back the release of A Fox Of Storms And Starlight by a month.

But the really, really, horrendously exciting news – at least from my perspective – is that the REASON we are doing involves exclusive black hardcover editions, and incredible book-box Fan Kits.

Back in late January/early February, I was chatting with Liana Brooks about making up some reviewer kits for her amazing sci-fi romance novel, Change Of Momentum.

Have you heard of book subscription boxes? Some really popular ones are OwlCrate and FairyLoot, and they are seriously gorgeous. You sign up (or get a one-off box) and every month you get a surprise box delivered to your door with an exclusive-edition hardcover novel and 4 – 6 book-themed merchandise items. Bath products, candles, artwork, book sleeves, bookmarks, enamel pins, you name it. I’ve even seen a couple of boxes with custom sleep masks and custom snuggle blankets. Amazing.

So of course, being the kind of person who doesn’t do things by halves, this is what I thought of when Liana said ‘reviewer boxes’.

But! If we were going to go to all the (fun)trouble of sourcing things and making these boxes, why not share them with anyone who cared to have one?!

So for two weeks, I obsessively researched book boxes, bought myself an OwlCrate and a FairyLoot to test them out (I’ll post a review of the OwlCrate one probably this week; the FairyLoot one has been delayed due to covid), and Made Plans.

Then life (and covid) happened, and anyway it takes a lot of capital to start up things like that, etc etc, so forth.

My mentor, Dean Wesley Smith, however, has a free how-to-use-Kickstarter-for-authors course that he released just a month ago. And I watched it. And lightbulbs flooded my brain space.

So get prepared: because in just a few days’ time*, A Fox Of Storms And Starlight will be coming to a Kickstarter campaign near you.

In the campaign, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase the Kickstarter-exclusive, not-being-sold-anywhere-else black hardcover edition as part of the amazing Fan Kit. You’ll be able to get signed copies of the novel. You’ll have access to the amazingly gorgeous fox pin that The Black Kookaburra designed to go with the book. And you’ll have the opportunity to snag some bargains on a bunch of ebook bundles, including short story deals, writer bundles, and the ultimate reader bundle containing all my fiction.

A Fan Kit box. A stunning hardcover. A beautiful, foxy pin. All in one incredible Kickstarter.

I am so excited <3

*AH HA HA HA apparently I am TOO excited. Yesterday, I accidentally hit ‘launch’ instead of ‘preview’, and so THE CAMPAIGN IS NOW LIVE!! <3 <3 Oops.
